 Work on Feeding Center Progressing

Cement roof will put center in the dry

We’ve waited a long time for this dream to become reality. All the flood damage, all the deterioration, all the leaky roof problems are in the past as we close in on the last phase of the construction of the feeding center.

The center will be used to house our Feeding Hungry Children program. It is located in a city in northern Mexico, headquarters for our ministry association.

Walls are up and forms are being set to pour the roof. Big windows will help utilize the constant breeze.

The next step in the construction is to put the cement roof on the center. The best part about this building is that it is being constructed completely from cement. We will never again have to deal with wood rot or termite damage. Praise the Lord!

Recently, we held a work day at the new center and many showed up to do their part. The day was capped off with a delicious meal prepared by the ladies of the church for all the workers.

Our ladies really know how to fix Mexican food — for needy children and hungry volunteers!

Violence in Mexico Taking Toll on Life in General
 Schools, businesses closing in droves

I well remember the day when Donna and I enjoyed strolling the streets of this quaint city situated along the northern border of this once-tranquil country. Those days are but a memory. Today grenades are being tossed onto sidewalks from passing vehicles with increasing frequency; shootouts in broad daylight along busy boulevards are a constant reminder that this is now a war zone.

The most recent incidents have made us to know that this stuff can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone. Over a hundred schools padlocked their gates recently due to threats; the assailants left a calling card on school property to show they meant business: the remains of 5 victims. Businesses who won’t, or cannot, give in to extortion demands are shuttering their doors, turning once-thriving communities into ghost towns.

It’s been 5 years since the president of Mexico declared war on these violent criminals. For the common citizen of this beleaguered country, it’s 5 years — and counting — of their lives they won’t get back.

What will bring an end to this crisis? Only God. Please continue to pray for the country of Mexico, our safety, our churches, our pastors and the feeding programs. We need your support now more than ever.
