Shoebox Toy Drive Gears up for Christmas
Annual event highlights ministry to
underprivileged families in Mexico
Each year at this time the focus of our ministry turns to the multitudes of needy children of Mexico. For the past few years we have collected items that will fit in a shoebox and distributed them to children in impoverished neighborhoods around our churches. This evangelistic outreach has brought many families to the Lord. Hearts are softened as we share the love of Christ.
The past couple of years has been especially difficult for residents in the areas where we work. Living in a third world environment is hard enough. Throw in the devastating economic effects of the war on drugs and you have the perfect storm.
Thousands of people are out of work because businesses have shut down. Schools have closed. People huddle in their homes after dark. Grenade attacks on businesses, even in broad daylight, keep many people from venturing out at all.
So in the midst of all this unrest we want to bring a ray of sunshine to the hurting this Christmas season. (continued)
This is a sampling of the many gift-wrapped shoeboxes we distribute at Christmas to needy children in impoverished areas of Mexico.
Many ask us what we need in order to put this extravaganza together. The answer is simple: Money. For $10 per shoebox you can bless a child with a Christmas he or she will never forget. And you could be changing a life forever in doing so.
Others have expressed interest in becoming involved by actually purchasing items that we need to fill the shoeboxes. So if you would like to go this route, I have included a wish-list just below this article. You can choose to make up the boxes yourself by stuffing them with items from the list or you can purchase the items only and ship them to us. We will make up the boxes here.
If you choose to make up boxes, be sure to specify on the outside if it’s for a boy, girl or baby. Ship all items and/or shoeboxes by postal mail to the address at the top of this newsletter.
Won’t you help us in reaching out to these needy children and their families? If everyone would do something, even if it seems small in your eyes, it would make a world of difference.
We can’t reach them all — we wish we could. Just remember, you may not be able to change the whole world, but you can change somebody’s world. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
