Construction of New Feeding Center Now Underway

The paint was still drying on the walls of the new church as we sat down to draw up plans for Phase 2 of the STM Headquarters project. Next up: a brand new feeding center.

The center will allow us to better serve the many children that come to the feeding program. The old building was literally falling down because of rotten boards due to flooding every time it rained. The new building will be raised 3 feet to match the level of the church next door. It will be constructed with cement blocks and will come with the option to have a second floor expansion someday.

We are excited about this phase. For a long time the cooks for our feeding program have had to endure less than ideal conditions in which to work. Even small rains would flood the kitchen. I've seen our cooks standing in water while working at the sink or the stove. Due to all the flooding, the cabinets were falling down as was the ceiling.

Thanks to a church in Louisiana, all that is changing. The church took funds from their own building program so they could sow into the building of this feeding center. Their heart to help us feed children touches OUR heart. We are so grateful for pastors and congregations such as this who are willing to sacrifice for others. (continued)

On a beautiful evening recently Spirit and Truth Bible Church held an outdoor service on the site of the old church. We had just torn down the building to make way for construction to begin on the feeding center. The new church can be seen to the right.

Please help us pray that this project will go smoothly in the midst of the dangers that we're facing. Thank you.

(Please note: Due to death threats and extortion attempts against this ministry, we are unable to publish on the internet the names of persons or the exact location of our works in Mexico.)

STM Spreads Cheer on Día de los Niños (Children’s Day)

Enough cannot be said about the importance of a child. They are the present and even more so, the future.

It is with that in mind that we set aside a good deal of our ministry to raising up Mexican children in the ways of the Lord. A third of the population of Mexico is under the age of 15. Our goal is to nourish these children today both physically and spiritually so they will become productive in the church and workplace tomorrow.

In Mexico there is a holiday to honor children. It’s called Día de los Niños or Children’s Day. We use this day to bless children with snacks, treats and gifts to show them we care, to show them that Jesus cares. Children in Mexico need lots of love as they deal with hardships American kids never see.

Día de los Niños offers us the opportunity to share with children the love of Christ. Much effort was put forth to prepare meals and toys for them. But it was all worth it. The investment we make in children's lives today will pay big dividends in their lives tomorrow.

Amid Tears of Joy Main STM Church is Dedicated

Dream of “High and Dry” Building is Finally Realized

In this city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas there seems little to celebrate, what with the turmoil and constant violence brought on by the drug war. But all the fear, anxiety and dread were laid aside for a short time recently as the congregation united to celebrate the dedication of their brand new church. With a single snip of the scissors, the pastor cut the bright, blue ribbon draped over the entrance and the party was on.

The building was not put up without its share of difficulties. Last year a drug cartel made an extortion attempt complete with a death threat against our staff in an attempt to steal the money we had raised to build the church. But through a miraculous turn of events, the extortion attempt was thwarted and the church went up without a hitch. Two U.S. churches — one from Louisiana, the other from Illinois — gave the bulk of the funds to turn a dream into reality.

Tears of joy flowed freely in the service as the people rejoiced over their new facility that will not leak, flood, rot or have termites. It’s built completely out of cement. Our hearts are full today. Thank you for giving!

Congregation members file into the church following the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Over 100 people attended the dedication. Over the platform it reads: Welcome to the House of God.
